Gonna try something new this year. Actually have been thinking about this last year but just never got to doing it. My first resolution of 2013 is to improve my photo taking skills. Enrollment in classes will be my first priority...failing which I'll go with youtube tutorials and getting some instructional dvds.
I also want to have a nicer background as compared to my usual white background. As much as I believe a white background gives the model more attention but having nice scenery does make for a good pic. And so I present to you my first attempt. Your comments are most welcomed as always :).
Unfortunately for me, I don't have the Nuts book yet so not sure on the stats for these nice tanks. Yeah I know....I could just get them from the Battlefront website but I'm lazy. Plus this post is just about the pics.
So what do you think?

I believe you are headed towards the right direction. One of the frequent comments I get from non-miniature hobbyists checking out my pictures is that the white background is boring. The pics above are cool ^^ though the grey tanks on grey pavement might not give a big enough contrast. Still cool pics. =)
ReplyDeleteSo ... did you go to the Star Trek exhibition?
Agree with you that my tanks don't really pop out. Been trying with different camera configuration but to no avail. That's why i need to enroll in some serious classes. CAre to join?
DeleteI have on occasion subscribed to an e-learning site called lynda.com
DeleteIt does contain some camera / photo taking courses you might be interested in. I am currently not subscribed to the website due to budget reasons but I highly recommend lynda.com mainly for software tutorials but their camera stuff ain't that bad either. They have a trial period so you can check it out first before paying.
Thanks for the suggestion bro. I'll have a look.
DeleteNiiiiiize!
ReplyDeleteThanks man :)
DeleteSame predicament with me then; white backgrounds.
ReplyDeleteOne of the suggestions I've received was to build a 2'x3' table/display board at home, complete with fully painted terrains. Due to current space constraints, I have yet to do anything. However, if you can find the space, why don't you give it a try?
Another suggestion was to create a mini photo studio at home. That way, you can alternate the background colours, similar to what Carl did for his pictures. But, space will be an issue again.
Speaking of which, the pictures above are really good steps towards the right direction.
I did build a mini studio at home for this pic. Should've shared the photo. Next post.
DeleteUnfortunately it's too mini haha. Need to find more hobby space at home.
Thanks for the comments man. Appreciate it.
nice! I would try framing the subject tighter. The background terrain would look more realistic
ReplyDeleteThanks man. One of my 2013 resolutions...learn to take better photos by understanding proper shooting techniques.
