Pre-Heresy Imperial Fist

Test model for my pre-heresy project early next year. Really love the MkIII model especially the helmet.I wanted to keep the model...sombre, grim dark so I just left the eyes black. Does it work?
Incidently, this is also my first ever forgeworld model. Yeah, can you believe that...I started playing 40k in early 2009 and this is my first ever FW model. I must say they're crisp and nice :).
I'm none to happy with the white VII decal I used to mark the legion number. Would've preferred it to be black but only white was available on the generic marine decal sheet. Could've painted on top of the decal black but I don't trust my skills not to botch it. I'll have to figure another way to do it. Perhaps make some masking. Or just paint the pads black with white markings.
Am happy with my attempt. The nice base is courtesy of my good work colleague Mr. Rizal. Thanks for the help bro. Appreciate it. Your bases are so much better than my previous attempts :).

Last pic to share is size comparison between the FW and AoBR marine.
Can't believe how ...degenerative the space marine gene seeds have become since the pre-heresy days ;).

Thanks for reading guys. Your sincere comments are most appreciated as always :)

  1. Nice work! When can we expect more? I like the way you've left the eyes black, think it quite suits the MK III armour but am not sure it would look 'right' on later marks.

    ...oh and seasons greetings :P

    1. Thanks Snake :). My friends and me are are planning to start our pre-heresy project in Jan 2013. First up will be troops. Agree with the eyes. They're staying black.

      Seasons greetings to you :)

  2. No lah Khairul, the genestock din degenerate, u just place the mkIII model on a scenic base and it looks taller thus bigger lah.

maybe another thin wash of brown on the model? it looks abit monotone for the moment, still looks good now though, don't get me wrong =)

    Startin a HH army/campaign?

    1. Limp-good point there :). But i still think the AoBR marine's legs are too short..making them look stunted haha.

Yes, am staring a HH army with 3 others at this point of writing. Campaign will definitely follow once we get our forces done ;)

    2. Awesome! which codex are you guys planning to use for HH? Far as I know the first HH book cover only Emperor's Children, Sons of Horus, Death Guard and World Eater.

I started to paint my night lords army and previously plan to double them as proxy for HH, but the lack of codex and the crazy fund that I need to bleed for forgeworld stuff put me to a stop =P

Anyway have fun on HH! Can't wait to see fully painted HH armies bashing each others on the table!

    3. Yeah, I'm using the generic space marines army list from the 1st HH book. Hopefully by the time we start playing there'll be a Imperial Fist list :)

  3. I like the models. Didn't think yellow and metals would work but they actually do.

While limp has a point with the washes, I think the monotone does work too as they look like brand new armour just oiled by servitors. Both looks (wash and no further wash) would be cool in my books. Just depends what you are going for.

    1. Thanks for the comments bro. I still think it should look grim darker. One reason I painted the backpack all black. I'll do some touch up to this model to make it look darker and see how it turns out.

  4. Looks great! I think that squad number definitely needs to be black- try practicing on some spare plastic shoulder pads if you're worried you're going to mess it up!

Keep going! I've got to get my first one done this week... :)

  5. Guys, may I know the time frame for this HH megaproject? I may not be joining officially, since there's no specific rule yet for my HH army, but the Emperor's Finest would like to make an appearance too.

    1. Doc, with me it's all careful layers by thin layers using the smoothest most expensive brush in the market....NOT!!

The yellow is all airbrushed using 3 different hues of Vallejo game color yellow. The last is a mixture of sunny yellow and some brown..forgot the name. Can't really see the transition on my small model :(.

Please share your progress when you get your models man. What are you getting? And hey...we can defend the Imperial Palace side by side when the time comes!!
